The Heart of Te Fiti is an ancient gem belonging to the living mother island Te Fiti in the Disney animated feature film Moana.

Background[]

At the beginning of time, the world was covered entirely by ocean. Then came the mother island, Te Fiti. The heart of Te Fiti allowed the creation of life and the multiple islands that would make up the homes of the world's first great navigators in the South Pacific. The mischievous demigod Maui, who—like others—sought ownership of the heart for his own purposes, infiltrated the island and stole the heart of Te Fiti. However, after escaping with the heart, Maui was attacked by the lava demon Te Kā. In the battle with Te Kā, the heart of Te Fiti was lost in the ocean, along with Maui's hook. According to legend, if the heart of Te Fiti is not returned to its rightful place, the world will slowly deteriorate and be destroyed.

Thousands of years after the battle between Maui and Te Kā, the heart of Te Fiti appears in the ocean and is bestowed upon a girl named Moana. Under her grandmother's guidance, Moana makes it her mission to restore the heart to the mother island and stop the darkness from spreading.

After a perilous journey across the ocean, Moana manages to return the heart, reviving Te Fiti, who in turn lifts the curse placed upon the world.
