The sea turtle is a minor character in Disney's 2016 Moana.
Role in the Film[]
The sea turtle appears in the very beginning of the film when Moana is a toddler. It is seen hiding under a tree from the frigatebirds. The sea turtle wants to go to the ocean, but the frigatebirds want to eat it. The turtle is frightened and tries to hide in its shell. Moana sees it and breaks a leaf off the tree, then holds it over the sea turtle, helping it into the water. The frigate birds peck at the turtle on the way to the ocean once or twice. The Ocean sees goodness in Moana and "chooses" her.
The sea turtle is last seen with a larger turtle, swimming happily in the ocean. It waves at Moana before swimming away with a twist.
Trivia[]
- The two sea turtles are possibly a reference to Crush and Squirt from Pixar's 2003 Finding Nemo and Disney/Pixar's 2016 Finding Dory.
